The itch

I wanted a safer way to check for parking on my phone, without pulling it out mid-ride and fiddling with the Citi Bike app. Now when I'm rolling up home, I can check my favorite or nearby stations with a glance.

What it does

How it works

Citi Bike publishes live station data in an open format (GBFS) that needs no API key. A small shared Swift package fetches and models it, and the app and widgets share a cache through an App Group, so widgets stay fresh without opening the app.

  1. Citi Bike feedpublic GBFS, no key
  2. BikeKitshared Swift package
  3. App Groupshared station cache
  4. App + widgetsmap, Lock Screen, Home
  5. Siri“How many docks at…”
Larger widgets have a refresh button that works right from the Home Screen.

What's next

Polishing it up and shipping it to the App Store.
